Red Parka Challenge Cup is March 15 and is introducing a Snowboard Division

February 17, 2024 (Bartlett, NH) – One of the Mt. Washington Valley’s favorite springtime traditions, the 49th Annual Red Parka Challenge Cup Race, is slated for Friday, March 15, at 9:30 a.m. at Attitash Mountain Resort. For the first time in its history, there will be a Co-Ed Snowboard Division.

“Snowboarders will have their own division and we’ll award the fastest time of the day to the top three finishers from the division,” said Laura Lemieux, Red Parka Challenge Cup Committee Chair. “We’ve had some pent up interest for years, we think it will help grow the race.”

Registration is open now through March 13 at skireg.com/red-parka-challenge-cup-race. The $85 registration fee includes a full day lift ticket, guaranteed two runs on course, a commemorative race hat, two beer tickets and a raffle ticket for the after party in Ptarmigan’s Pub at Attitash. All proceeds go to the Eastern Slope Ski Club, which supports Mt. Washington Valley school aged children with ski programming every winter.

Men and women ages 21+ are welcome to compete, with a men’s and women’s champion crowned at the end of the day during afternoon run offs. Racers can also form teams to race for a special team trophy and prizes, which is decided by a combination of the teams fastest times of the day.

“For those that wait, we do accept registration on the day of the race on the day of the race,” Lemieux said. “Registration is in the South Wing of the Attitash Base Lodge from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Qualifiers begin promptly at 9:30 a.m.”

The dual giant slalom takes place on Spillway and spectators are welcome to watch at race finish. Anyone in our community that wants to support ESSC through the race can find a racer and donate to them directly at pledgereg.com/red-parka-challenge-cup-race

Other race festivities include a Bib Draw before race day at the Red Parka Pub at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 14. Racers and families are welcome to join in on the fun with dining, heckling and the official bib draw. Bib #1 and #2 will go to the racer that raises the most money in PledgeReg, a fundraising app that racers can opt-in to doing when they register for the race.

The Red Parka Challenge Cup is supported by Red Parka Pub Steakhouse & Pub, Attitash Mountain Resort, Fall Line Construction, Salty Dogs Golden Retriever Puppies, Crest Auto World, Minuteman Press North Conway, Settlers Green, Swix, Story Land, WMWV & Magic, Skichair.com, Sport Thoma, P1 Timing, Attitash Realty, Budweiser / NH Distributors, Gosling’s Rum, Singer Kittredge, Pepsi, Valley Originals, Yullr, Attitash Race Team, J&L Renovations & Remodeling, Gaynor Heating & Cooling and Rossignol.
