Memorial Hospital to Partner with MWV Chamber to Present Lunchtime Healthcare Workshops

NORTH CONWAY, NH – Memorial Hospital will be presenting two free Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce BizBuzz lunchtime learning sessions in March in the hospital’s Intervale Conference Room above its Outpatient Physical Therapy building, just north of the main entrance to the hospital on Route 16. All sessions run from 12-2pm.

“Spring into Spring with Running” will be the topic of the session on Thursday, March 22 (rescheduled from March 8th). Presented by Dr. Matt Geary, DPT, at Memorial Hospital. This presentation will cover basic running biomechanics, choosing the proper footwear, associated strength training you can be doing now and how to create a “Couch to 5K” for your team or workplace.

Geary has completed post-graduate course work in various treatment philosophies and techniques including: Mulligan Concept, Graston Technique, and Spinal Manipulation in addition to numerous hours of functional training and sport specific seminars. He is also an adjunct instructor at the University of New England, teaching orthopedics in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

On March 15, Justine Fierman, FNP-BC will present “Diabetes in the Workplace.” Justine will talk about how diabetes and prediabetes can affect your workforce and how being proactive with reasonable accommodations for individuals with diabetes can positively impact your business.

According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes affects 30 million children and adults nationwide — that is 1 in 11 Americans. Care of people with diagnosed diabetes accounts for 1 in 5 health care dollars in the US. Indirect costs can include increased absenteeism, reduced productivity at work and inability to work due to a disease-related disability. Justine will help program attendees to gain a better understanding of the law related to anti-discrimination in the work place and gather tips and tools for handling diabetes emergencies of both employees and clients in the business setting.

Fierman is a Nurse Practitioner and Director of the Miranda Center for Diabetes & Endocrinology. Justine received her medical training from Misericordia University.
