MOUNT WASHINGTON OBSERVATORY’S SEEK THE PEAK HIKE-A-THON FUNDRAISER GOES VIRTUAL

The 20th anniversary of Seek the Peak will be heading down a different path than years past

North Conway, NH – May 6, 2020 – The non-profit Mount Washington Observatory’s largest annual fundraiser, the 20th anniversary of the Seek the Peak hike-a-thon, is going virtual in response to new social distancing norms amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Seek the Peak hike-a-thon raises a significant portion of MWO’s annual budget to support its work in weather observation, education and research atop Mount Washington. The event brings hundreds of participants to the White Mountains annually. This year participants are being asked to explore closer to home and to Seek Their Peak anytime from July 1 – 20, 2020. Then they can share their hike with fellow MWO supporters in a Seek the Peak Facebook Group.

MWO will celebrate the 20th anniversary event by flying a Commemorative STP Prayer Flag from the observation tower on the Mount Washington summit outside the weather research station later in July. The flag will be comprised of individual participant flags stitched together reflecting hiker names, their summit and photos as well as names of participants over the years.

Participants will be rewarded for their fundraising efforts with a gear giveaway, thanks to the support of sponsors including Oboz Footwear, Eastern Mountains Sports, Big Agnes, Petzl, Backpacker Magazines Get Out More Tour, Adventure Medical Kits and Hyperlite Mountain Gear.

Registration for STP is still open. You can take part in this memorable virtual experience by signing up to raise funds for the Observatory.
