Dustin Grinnell Book Signing and Q&A at Pope Memorial Library June 10th, 2022

The Pope Memorial Library in North Conway hosts Mount Washington Valley native Dustin
Grinnell to discuss his new book “The Empathy Academy” on Friday, Jun. 10, at 5 p.m. This
event will be free and open to the public, nonlibrary members included.

“The Empathy Academy” is a sci-fi novel about a dystopian future where a genetic test can
identify a predisposition in teenagers for unethical behavior before they reach adulthood. Teens
identified with this predisposition are sent to an experimental school on Nantucket Island that
claims to cure unethical behaviors. “The Empathy Academy,” asks the question of whether
morality is learned through nature or nurture.

Grinnell is a Kennett High School graduate who proudly grew up here, in the White Mountains.
He now holds an MFA in fiction from Lasell University, an MS in physiology from Penn State,
and a BA in psychobiology from Wheaton College. Grinnell is an essayist and fiction writer who
has had his work appear in the Boston Globe and the Washington Post, among other publishers.
