BRETTON WOODS WELCOMES NORDIC COMPETITORS TO THE 48TH ANNUAL GESCHMOSSEL RACE

Bretton Woods, N.H. (Jan. 15, 2024) – Nearly two feet of fresh snow fell over the last week at Bretton Woods, allowing the Bretton Woods Nordic Center to open for the season and for the 48th annual Geschmossel Nordic Ski Race to take place today. The field of 45 competitors skied under sunny skies with the fastest racer completing the 11 km classic course in :22:22. The top three finishers in each category were:

Part of the ZAK Cup Series, the Geschmossel race was originally staged during the winter of 1972-73 and is now one of New England’s oldest citizens’ races. The race originated as a 6-kilometer fun race, and was groomed with a homemade track sled that was pulled by a rope from a grooming machine. Today this 11 km classic Nordic race took place on the Ammonoosuc trail network at the Bretton Woods Nordic Center and has attracted both aspiring racers and high-level Nordic skiers from around the country over the years, including members of the United States Ski Team.
