North Conway – As we finish up the summer in August and move toward fall foliage season in September, Mt Washington Valley’s events calendar is packed with fun for the whole family. August 2, 9, 16, 23: Movies on the Green: Watch a free outdoor movie at dusk on the 16-foot movie screen at Settlers Green. Comfy outdoor lounge chairs are provided for the first 30 guests or bring your own chair or blanket. Movies start at dusk. Pre-movie activities start at 6:00pm including free face painting from 6-8 p.m., special raffles and yard games. Yard games include Bowling with The Bears, Giant Jenga and more! August 4: Arts Jubilee Concert featuring Boogie Blues at Cranmore: WMWV’s Roy Prescott of “The Blues Summit” will introduce “Boogie Blues” with Victor Wainwright & the Wildroots. Blues, Roots Rock and Soul, featuring the high-octane boogie piano and soulful vocals of Victor Wainwright, are backed by one of the most gifted bands on the scene: The Wildroots. August 5: Summer Mountain Bike Easement Exploration Series: The Upper Saco Valley Land Trust is gearing up for a busy summer of fun, free, outdoor adventures. As part of its mission to preserve land for community benefit, the Land Trust runs the “Easement Exploration Series” in connection with NEMBA. Tonight’s ride is at Green Hills Preserve. Meet at the Hemlock Lane trailhead behind Walmart off the North-South Road. 5:30 pm start, intermediate terrain but lots of climbing, some of which is steep. In 2014, USVLT partnered with The Nature Conservancy to grow their Green Hills Preserve by more than 1,300 acres. Info: www.usvlt.org/easement-exploration-series.

August 5: Sip & Paint at Jackson Art Studio: Mt Washington with Pines: Workshop with with Melanie Barash Levitt. Class will start PROMPTLY at 6pm. PLEASE ARRIVE 15-20 min. prior to class starting. Fun for the absolute beginner to the seasoned artist! Spend an evening of creativity as you twist open your favorite bottle of wine (BYOB for those 21 and over) and uncork your creativity! The instructor will guide you step by step- easy, stress free, & affordable! $50 all supplies included. August 6, 13, 20, 27, Sept 3, 4: 4th Mountain Side Summer Music Festival at Attitash: Bring your own chair, sit back and enjoy live free entertainment from 3:00 – 6:00pm near the Attitash Base Lodge. August 6: Art in the Park: "White Mtn. Artists, Yesterday & Today" is the theme of the day as this wonderful art show under the tent returns to Schouler Park, North Conway from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Shop for beautiful artworks created by talented local artists. Info: www.mwarts.org.

August 6: 5th Annual Attitash Blueberry Festival: This fun family event includes a Craft Fair, Cornhole Tournament, Face Painting by Mt Washington Valley Children’s Museum, Blueberry Pie Baking Contest, Blueberry Pie Eating Contest, and an assortment of Blueberry BBQ, Treats, and Elixirs from 10:00am to 6:00pm. And the day is topped off with a live performance from local favorite, The Jonathan Sarty Band. This event is FREE to attend, although Attitash Resort amenities require an admission ticket. August 6 & 13: Sol y Canto! Concert:The World Fellowship Center Welcomes You to Sol y Canto with Latin roots music to soothe & change the world on August 6th. August 6: Jackson Covered Bridge Dance: Jon Sarty and the White Mountain Boys bring it home again this year under the Jackson Historic Covered Bridge for an evening of dancing, mingling, kids activities and dining all outside under the beautiful stars. August 6: 3rd Annual Dole 3 Miler: The race is a project of the Fryeburg New Church Assembly, and the Fryeburg New Church in celebration of the life and loves of Fryeburg native, Rev. Dr. George F. August 7: Sunrise Ascent on Mt Washington: This unique event is a fundraiser for Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country (ASPNC). Before sunrise, on Sunday, August 7th, athletes and teams ascend the Mount Washington Auto Road, determined to reach the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington. Each team includes an adaptive athlete and a team of “mules” who help an athlete needing assistance, or accompany an independent athlete as he or she climbs the 7.6 miles to the summit. Together the teams are inspired by the beauty of the sunrise, the majesty of the Presidential Range and the determination shared amongst them. ​ The goal for this event is to raise over $62,880, to help fund the operating budget of ASPNC. August 11: Final Arts Jubilee Pops Concert & Fireworks: As tradition dictates, Arts Jubilee ends the summer concert series with the “Swingin’ Down Memory Lane” Pops Concert & Fireworks. The PJO, Maine’s premier concert jazz ensemble will trace the line of big bands from the 1930s to the present including classics from the orchestras of Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman and Count Basie and featured guest vocalist Chris Humphrey. August 12 & 13: Sunset Paddling on the Androscoggin with Great Glen Trails: Paddling by sunset brings a whole new environment of sights, sounds and wildlife to the largest river north of Mt. Washington. Guided sunset tours along a pristine stretch of the Androscoggin River are now offered four times this summer and these days are two of them. $80 per person; prior paddling experience advised. August 13: Wildman Biathlon: A three-part (duathlon) event for teams and individuals. Celebrating its 28th year in 2016, the Wildman is considered one of New England’s toughest single day, multi-sport events, challenging individuals and 2 or 3 person teams who enjoy a variety of terrain and scenery in a 10K run, 23-mile bike ride and 3-mile uphill run. It starts at Shelburne Town Hall and ends at Wildcat Mountain. T-shirts are offered to all participants with trophies awarded to overall and category winners along with numerous prizes given away through random drawing. August 14-21: Hula Hoop Week: The World Fellowship Center Welcomes Sarah Daly of Hoop De Doo in Worcester, MA who teaches participants how to keep the basic hoop spinning around your waist, intermediate tricks, leg, foot and shoulder hooping, dancing with your hoop, hoop-making, and more. August 14: Danforth Bay 5K walk/run to benefit Cynthia’s Challenge:The fourth in a series of 5 races. Registration for the event is open to the public.Registration starts at 7:30am at the starting area by the Bluffs entrance gate and is $30 per race and includes a t-shirt! August 20: Mt Washington Auto Road Hillclimb: The Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb is known as the toughest hillclimb in the world at 7.6 miles in length, with an average grade of 12% with extended sections of 18% and the last 50 yards is an amazing 22%! Sprint that to the finish! At 8:00am, the road closes to the public and at 8:30am the first class is off. Spectators are welcome to watch. Info: click here.

August 20-21: White Mountain Art & Artisan Festival: More than 40 art and artisans showcase their work in Jackson Village Park, for display and purchase. There will be local and visiting food vendors, kids activities, live local talent Al Schafner will be performing and a popular Silent Auction will take place on Sat from 10:00am to 300pm. August 25: Ken & Brad Koloder at Medallion Opera House: The dynamic father-son team Ken & Brad Kolodner weave together a captivating sound on hammered dulcimer, banjo and fiddles. They infuse their own brand of driving, innovative, tasteful and unique interpretations of traditional and original fiddle tunes. August 27-28: Mostly Bach Festival: Two opportunities to hear the music of J. S. Bach and friends performed by chorus, orchestra and soloists in a festival setting take place Saturday and Sunday, August 27th and 28th at First Church of Christ, Congregational in North Conway. Presented by White Mountain Musical Arts, tickets will be available in advance and at the door. August 28: Great Glen Trails 7km trail running fundraiser: The White Mountain Milers will partner with Great Glen Trails, Julbo and Big Dave’s Bagels to organize a fundraising trail running race for local US Biathlon Team Member and Olympian, Sean Doherty. The race will be a 100% fundraiser with all proceeds to help support his training efforts. This will be a trail running race for all ages and abilities, not a biathlon race. September 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, October 6: Salomon Fall Trail Run/Walk Series at Great Glen Trails: This weekly trail race series for all abilities and ages takes place every Thursday for six weeks. Racers can run or walk the long, short or mini courses between 3:30 and 7:00 p.m. Awards, raffle and fun potluck October 6th. 6-week series: Adults: $35, Kids 17 & Under: $10

USVLT’s Cranmore Easement dates from 2010 and protects 53 acres of beautiful forest land along the Kearsarge Brook. 5:00 pm start, the trails will be on advanced terrain with lots of steep climbing and rocky & rough descending. September 5: Memorial Hospital’s 5K Fun Run at Story Land: Kids, race your way around Story Land! There will be appearances from some of the Story Land characters and a few other special guests! Registration is $10/child. Registration begins at 8:00am on Race Day, races start at 8:45am sharp. All participants receive a race medal, t-shirt and a pass to Story Land to be used that day. September 9-10: Muster in the Mountains: A two-day colonial encampment of re-enactors representing various individuals of the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, and Mountain Man periods from 1750 through 1840 at the Mt Washington Auto Road. Participants will demonstrate the use of appropriate tools, clothing, and firearms for their respective time periods. This event is free and open to the general public with the hope that the education they receive here may spur them on to consider becoming a future participant. September 9 – 11: Mud Bowl 2016 & Tournament of Mud Parade: Mud Bowl, the championships of mud football, will celebrate a theme of "Animation Fun! The theme will be used by participants in the team and the open class for the 34th Tournament of Mud Parade, set for North Conway Village’s Main Street Saturday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. Games in the double-elimination tourney are played at Steve Eastman Memorial Field at Hog Coliseum Friday through Sunday, with the finals on Sunday. Cheerleaders, kid’s activities and food are featured.
Proceeds benefit local charities, with more than $870,000 having been raised since the first games were played locally in 1976. The games feature two-hand touch football, played in knee-deep mud, with seven players per side and ten teams from throughout New England. Three-day tickets are $15; day tickets are $6 ages 14 and up, and $4 ages 6 to 13; family tickets (two adults, two children) are $15 per day. Advance tickets can be purchased at the North Conway Community Center, the Vaughan Learning Center (formerly known as North Conway Day Care), Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce, all in North Conway, and Home Run Sports Training Center on Hobbs Street in Conway. September 10: Pitch Pine Challenge Triathalon at White Lake State Park: Both sprint and Olympic distance courses offered, plus a Splash and Dash and Aquabike option too. Swim, Bike, Run in and around White Lake State Park, Chocoura and Tamworth. Plenty of options for those 6 and up, plus it’s a fundraiser for the White Mountain Aquatic & Fitness Foundation. September 16-18: 3rd Annual Fungal Foray Weekend at World Fellowship Center: New-to-the mushroom world? Learn to protect mushroom habitat and to enjoy, identify, cook, appreciate and photograph wild mushrooms with World Fellowship Center. Talks/ guided walks on and off site. September 17: Red Parka Tricycle Race: Held annually in the Bear Peak Area this wacky event features adults racing on tricycles for prizes. It’s fun to participate and really fun to watch. All proceeds benefit the Dewey Mark RPP Scholarship Fund. Info: 603-374-2615.

September 18: Danforth Bay 5K walk/run: The last in this five-event series. Walk /run to benefit the MDA of New Hampshire. September 17: Jen’s Friends Climb Against Cancer: The Climb Against Cancer is an annual event held in September at Cranmore Mountain Resort. People of all ages participate, and many bring their four-legged family members. The hike up and down the slopes of Cranmore Mountain is approximately three miles. Participants may choose to hike the entire or partial route. Those who hike to the top of the mountain will be rewarded with picturesque views, live performances by local singers and dancers. Snacks and water are also provided. After the hike, lunch and more live entertainment too. Awards and prizes will also be given out to the teams and individuals who raised the most money. Saturday, September 24: 100 Acre Challenge 5K Obstacle Adventure: Competitors will run, swim, crawl and climb as this 5K challenge takes them into the mud, water, over walls, rock piles and through the wood. It’s all in fun and for a good cause with net proceeds benefiting the Believe in Books Literacy Foundation and our programs. Individuals and teams of two or four are invited and for kids 12 and under there is the Mini Acre Challenge featuring mini obstacles. The kids’ race starts at 9:00am followed by their awards. Starting at 10am, heats for the individual competitors and teams of two and four will depart the starting line every 12 minutes. Winners from each category are determined by best time. Following the event, food and beer will be available. Prizes for first three places of each category. Registration will be on-site the day of the event and will be priced as follows: Day of Race (9/24): $75/Individual, $115/Team of 2, $200/Team of 4. Registration begins at 8am.
