John Hunt will oversee the day-to-day operations as well as the implementation of the mountain’s new strategic plan.

Enfield, NH: Whaleback Mountain today announced that Jon Hunt will be joining Whaleback as Executive Director, effective May 26, 2021.

Jon will be joining Whaleback Mountain from nearby Colby-Sawyer College, where he was the Major Gifts Officer for the last four years, overseeing a record-breaking fundraising campaign. Jon will be bringing his experience in development and fundraising to Whaleback to help achieve the goals of the new strategic plan while overseeing the daily operations of the mountain.

Prior to Colby-Sawyer, Jon spent a year as an Advancement Officer at Kimball Union Academy after shifting from a sixteen-year career as a collegiate and prep school lacrosse coach. Jon has also served on the SAU 70, Hanover & Dresden School Boards since 2019 and sat as the Chair of the SAU 70 Board this past year.

This newly created position will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations, programs, and strategic plan. Jon will also focus on fundraising, communications, and community and corporate outreach.

“I am thrilled to be a part of leading Whaleback into the future,” said Hunt. “Whaleback is so important to the Upper Valley; we are committed to continuing to provide experiences for skiers and riders of all levels that are unmatched and memorable. Developing a love of snow sports is what drives our mission; I am honored to share that feeling with our community.”

This announcement coincides with the launch of Whaleback Mountain’s strategic plan. Norm Berman, Chair of the Whaleback Mountain Board of Directors, noted “This is an exciting time for Whaleback. Our strategic plan is ambitious but achievable with the support of our community. We are in as strong a position as ever and see Jon as exactly the right person to lead Whaleback into this next phase.”

Whaleback is committed to being a sustainable non-profit ski area that retains its unique character, is focused on skier development, and optimizes the availability of existing terrain during the ski season.
