Naturalist Led Hikes in Jackson

Thursdays 10am-12pm in September

September 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Join Tin Mountain Conservation Center for weekly hikes at our Jackson Field Station property. Highlights include the summit of Tin Mountain, a tin mine on the property, and historic homestead, and a mountain pond. Tin Mountain’s naturalist will explain the historic use of the property, help identify plant species, and point out animal signs. These hikes are a great way to explore the lesser trod trails of the White Mountains and avoid the crowds. Participants of all ages are welcome. Reservations required. Field Sketching: Drawing Birds

Saturday, October 1, 9-11:30 am

Drawing live animals of any type can be a very challenging subject. Birds especially are constantly moving. Come to this workshop and learn how to combine fast sketching with quick observation! Observation is key to drawing animals. Photographs and mounted specimens will be used in addition to time outdoors practicing from life. No prior drawing experience is necessary!

Program Fee: Members: $5; Non-members: $20.

Saw Whet Owl

Thursday, October 6, 7 PM

Join us for an in-depth look at the natural history of the Northeast’s smallest owl species, the Northern Saw-whet Owl. A New Hampshire resident, this elusive species often avoids detection due to its small size and nocturnal habits. Kathy Seymour a Mass Audubon birding trip leader and owl bander before relocating to the MWV, will share her observations from 15 years banding Saw-whet owls.
