Naturalist Led Hikes in Jackson

Thursdays 10am-12pm in July & August

July 7, 14, 21 & 28 and August 4, 11, 18, 25

Join Tin Mountain Conservation Center for weekly hikes at our Jackson Field Station property. Highlights include the summit of Tin Mountain, a tin mine on the property, and historic homestead, and a mountain pond. Tin Mountain’s naturalist will explain the historic use of the property, help identify plant species, and point out animal signs. These hikes are a great way to explore the lesser trod trails of the White Mountains and avoid the crowds. Participants of all ages are welcome. Reservations required. Know Your Edible Plants Field Program

July 28, 3 pm – 5 pm

Expand your appetite for nature tasting wild edible plants and learn to recognize the abundance of useful interesting, nourishing, or medicinal plants all around us. Carol Felice will lead participants on an exploration of Tin Mountain’s Rockwell Sanctuary to smell, taste, compare color and reflectivity, and listen for the sound of our fingers on textures and see how a plant might dance with the wind. Plants you meet here at Tin Mountain may also be found around your own home. Plant lists will be provided, but feel free to bring a small notebook or camera to help you remember all you learn.

Program fee: $15/person or $25/household for non-members; Members: Free

Umbagog Canoe Exploration

July 30, 6:30 am – 5:00 pm

Ply the waters of Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge where loons, bald eagles, osprey, and moose abound. Bring binoculars and a hearty lunch and beverage.
Use your own canoe / kayak or rent one of ours.

Program fee: $25 for non-members; $10 for members

Canoe rental is $10/person

Perseid Meteor Shower Program

Friday, August 12, 8-9:30pm

Tin Mountain Field Station, Jackson

Bring a blanket and enjoy nature’s fireworks! The shooting stars of August’s Perseid meteor shower will be on display and best viewed in large open areas. Back-up weather date: 8/13. Space is limited and registration is required. Register online or call 603-447-6991.
