The Mt. Washington Auto Road Opens for its 158th Season on May 12

Pinkham Notch, NH — Just six weeks ago the Mt. Washington Auto Road was fully covered in snow, and its fleet of SnowCoaches were taking passengers above treeline in winter conditions. Since then, the road crew has been working full time with plows and heavy machinery to clear the Auto Road and prepare it for customers to drive themselves as soon as Mother Nature would allow. This year, She was kind to us with warm spring weather, although She threw in a few late-season snowstorms on the mountain just to keep things interesting.

With an earlier-than-usual opening date, the legendary 7.6-mile road will be open to the summit of Mount Washington before Mother’s Day. Guided tours will begin on May 26th for the Memorial Day weekend, and will coincide with the opening of Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center and the scenic Glen View Cafe.

Come explore Mount Washington while there’s still snow on the peaks and skiers in the ravines, and enjoy an early-season experience that’s unlike anything in the eastern United States. Members of the media are invited to take a free guided tour or drive themselves anytime during the 2018 season. Please contact Crispin Battles to schedule your visit (603-466-3988; crispin).
