NEW HURRICANE SIMULATOR AT THE WEATHER DISCOVERY CENTER

BE BLOWN AWAY IN THE NEW HURRICANE SIMULATOR AT THE WEATHER DISCOVERY CENTER

Experience hurricane force winds up to 78 mph in this new exhibit

North Conway, NH—April 1, 2018 – The Mount Washington Observatory is offering a new “Hurricane Simulator” exhibit at the Weather Discovery Center in downtown North Conway. Feel what it is like to be in hurricane force winds just like our weather observers experience on the summit year round.

“We thought this would be a unique opportunity to allow our patrons to get just the slightest sense of what our observers experience on a regular basis,” said Sharon Schilling President. “Of course it is a controlled environment without many of the other elements that make hurricane conditions so dangerous.”

Guests will be able to step into The Hurricane Simulator and experience hurricane force winds up to 78mph without the dangers of blowing debris, pelting rain or other hazards that often come with powerful hurricanes. Guests will stand in an enclosed space as the winds slowly build over the course of a minute reaching 78 mph. The exhibit is available to museum patrons only with an additional cost over admission fees of $2 per use.

The Weather Discovery Center is open daily from 10:00am-5:00pm in the summer months and 10:00am-3:00pm in the winter season. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 7-17. Admission is free for children ages 6 and under and Mount Washington Observatory and ASTC members.
