Bemis Fire in Crawford Notch – May 14th Update

Bartlett, NH May 14, 2022— At approximately 11:00 a.m. the New Hampshire Division of Forest and Lands and White Mountain National Forest fire personnel responded to the Bemis Fire located on state land west of Route 302 in Crawford Notch State Park. The fire is currently estimated to be roughly 250 acres in size. Bartlett Fire Department, Twin Mountain Fire Department, North Conway Fire Department, and the Conway Scenic Railroad responded to assist with suppression. The fire is burning in steep, mountainous terrain and is near Arethusa Falls trail which will remain closed until further notice.

Presently, the fire is burning in Crawford Notch State Park and the White Mountain National Forest and is being managed under unified command. The area received wetting rain this afternoon and there are presently no significant threats to life or property. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The potential for increased wildfire activity remains high, and the public is encouraged to use caution and stay away from the area until the fire is considered controlled. More information will be released as it becomes available.
