Meet White Mountain National Forest Centennial Artist in Residence Lorri Deyer on July 17th

CAMPTON, NH, July 9, 2018 – Join us for a free presentation by White Mountain National Forest Artist in Residence, Lorri Deyer, at Forest Headquarters, 71 White Mountain Drive, on Tuesday, July 17th at 6:30 p.m.

Deyer will talk about her residency project – creating a “Field Guide to the Unnoticed: Walks through the White Mountain National Forest” – which will include her own observations, those of Forest Service employees, and members of the public.

In celebrating a century of service on the National Forest, we are asking employees and stakeholders how we can deliver the mission into the future. What will the next century on the White Mountain National Forest look like? It starts by taking stock in where we’ve come and really asking ourselves what opportunities the future will bring.

Deyer describes her work as being about “daily life and the miracle of noticing within that.” Her project will focus on exploring how the forest connects uniquely to its users and how self-expression, inspiration and sense of place differ for each person.

“I am so excited about this residency," she says. “It’s going to give me a new context for my art beyond LA city life to engage people in a place I remember fondly from childhood. I’ll have the opportunity to combine contemplative walks, photography and writing in a dedicated time to produce, and combine that with opportunities for learning with the public to document a very special time for the Forest as it celebrates its 100th birthday.”

All are welcome at the informal July 17 presentation; there will be time to talk with Deyer, ask questions about her project, and – for those interested – to sign up to participate in a forest walk with her.

The Artist in Residence program is a partnership between the White Mountain National Forest and the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire, with artist lodging provided by Friends of Mead Base Conservation Center. In mid-August through September sculptor Quinn Morrissette will be in residence.
