ARTS JUBILEE ANNOUNCES 34th SUMMER CONCERT SEASON

North Conway, NH June 27, 2016

Arts Jubilee has announced its lineup of outdoor summer concerts including a tribute to the Beach Boys Simon & Garfunkel. The concerts are held at the base of Mount Cranmore in North Conway Thursday nights from July 14 through August 11.

“After months of planning, the Arts Jubilee 2016 schedule reflects the goal of providing a wide range of upbeat entertainment to suit a variety of tastes,” said Cindy Russell, executive director of Arts Jubilee. “No matter what your specific musical tastes may be, these concerts will be fun for everyone and continue to be family-friendly in every way. We have a special focus for each of the five concerts and we’re truly excited to present our concerts for five consecutive Thursday nights this summer for residents and visitors to the valley.”

The series begins on Thursday, July 14th with A Tribute to the Beach Boys featuring a Canadian tribute band, “The Beach Bums”. During the summer of ’98 six artists grabbed their instruments and talent to put together “The Ultimate tribute to The Beach Boys” and named themselves ‘The Beach Bums’. The goal of the show is to recreate the magic and essence of the 60s on the California beaches. The “Beach Party”, the cars, the sun, the endless summer . . . This is what The Beach Boys music is all about. Join Arts Jubilee as we kick off our summer with music made popular over 5 decades ago – creating fond memories of beach parties, surfin’, and endless summer!

Next up in the 5-part series on Thursday, July 21 will be:“Old Friends”: Remembering Simon & Garfunkel. Old Friends is a stunning recreation of Simon & Garfunkel’s 1981 concert in Central Park – one of the largest and most beloved concerts of all time. This upbeat show will take the audience back in time to that cool September night in New York City when Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited to present Mrs. Robinson, Homeward Bound, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Scarborough Fair, The Sounds of Silence – and many other songs that have made Simon & Garfunkel one of the most successful and beloved artists of all time.

The middle concert in the series on Thursday, July 28 will feature the: Music of the 60s– with the Mellow Yellow Band. The Mellow Yellow Experience is a five-piece, happily stuck-in-the-’60s band, mixing unbridled affection for the psychedelic era including a pair of go-go dancers to create a fun, all-senses-awake musical ride in the wayback machine. Every song will bring back memories – your first date, your first car, graduation and more. Younger viewers will get a glimpse back to a far out, fascinating musical era when pop songs reigned supreme! So come to Cranmore for a trip back in time! Those days may be over, but thanks to Mellow Yellow, the music — and the spirit — live on.

For several summers, Arts Jubilee has featured a “blues night” with WMWV’s Roy Prescott of “The Blues Summit” as MC on the Arts Jubilee stage. This year on August 4th: Roy will introduce “Boogie Blues” with Victor Wainwright & the Wildroots. Blues, Roots Rock and Soul, featuring the high-octane boogie piano and soulful vocals of Victor Wainwright and backed by one of the most gifted bands on the scene: the Wildroots. “Victor Wainwright is a force to be reckoned with on a piano. He IS honky-tonk and boogie, with a dose of rolling thunder. Wainwright’s playing is simply beautiful madness.” -American Blues Scene 2013. Earlier this spring on May 11, we received the news that Victor Wainwright won the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year Award and his band The Wildroots won Band of the Year at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, Tennessee for 2016!

As tradition dictates, Arts Jubilee ends the summer concert series on Thursday, August 11th with the “Swingin’ Down Memory Lane” Pops Concert & Fireworks. Swing lives! No matter if you’re young or young at heart, everyone will agree that Swing is back in fashion again. The PJO, Maine’s premier concert jazz ensemble will trace the line of big bands from the 1930s to the present. Join them as they play the classics from the orchestras of Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman and Count Basie and featured guest vocalist Chris Humphrey. Completing Arts Jubilee’s summer season, this grand finale will offer the top instrumental and vocal hits of the Swing Era – – followed by Fireworks.

Arts Jubilee’s outdoor festival concerts are found at the base of the North Slope at Cranmore Mountain in North Conway, New Hampshire. Headline concerts begin at 7:00 PM and an early concert performance highlighting some of the area’s best musicians begins at 6 PM.
