Bach Festival Dates Announced
Mt. Washington Valley Hosts 29th Annual Mostly Bach Festival
White Mountain Musical Arts announces the 29th annual presentation of the Mostly Bach Festival, a favorite Baroque music weekend returning to the First Church of Christ, Congregational in North Conway, NH. The 2-day festival will be presented on Saturday evening, August 26th at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoon, August 27th at 4:30 pm and will include instrumental and vocal music of the Baroque period including vocal and instrumental soloists and the Bach Festival Chorus and Orchestra at both concerts.
The Saturday evening concert will include the music of Johann Sebastian Bach as well as compositions by Handel, Vivaldi, Albinoni and Lotti. The Sunday concert is an all-Bach program. The performers include musicians from the greater New England region as well as local residents of the Conway/Fryeburg area. “We take great pride in hosting many talented community members who will be performing alongside other professional musicians from the greater Maine and New Hampshire area,” stated Jim Umberger, President of the Board of Directors of WMMA.
Among the many highlights of the 2-day festival is the participation of the Bach Festival Chorus, including both amateur and professional singers from the greater Mt. Washington Valley which along with the Festival Orchestra is conducted for the ninth year by Dr. Robert Lehmann, Professor of Music and Director of Strings and Orchestral Activities at the University of Southern Maine School of Music where he conducts the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra and the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his duties at USM, he is Music Director of the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra, and the White Mountain Bach Festival in New Hampshire. He holds degrees in Violin Performance from the University of the Pacific, the Eastman School and Boston University and has been a fellow at the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Festival and at the Conductors Institute at Bard College.
