100-Acre Challenge raises $10,000 for Believe in Books Literacy Foundation

What a Crazy Challenge!

For the 6thyear in a row, the 100-Acre Challenge brought together spectators and participants to fundraise for literacy! This year’s race was the most successful fundraiser to date for the annual event raising just over $10,000 to support Believe in Books Literacy Foundation!

INTERVALE, NH – The 2018 100-Acre Challenge was an even crazier course than ever before, and yielded the most funds of any prior race that Believe in Books Literacy Foundation has ever had.

The Challenge took place throughout the 100-Acre Wood property starting with the kids races at 9:00 am. 18 kids aged 8 and under ran the first Mini-Mini Acre Challenge.9 kids between the ages of 9 and 12 competed in the next Mini Acre Challenge which featured a few of the obstacles from the 5K course.

Participants raced in heats through the 5K course with 25 obstacles starting at 10:00 am. Sam Sullivan, 16 from Hingham, MA, complete the 5K with an outstanding time of 33:44 with Greg Downing, 26, of Conway ten seconds behind him. Steve Lapointe, 62 from Rumford, ME, placed third for the males with a time of 37:52. Mariette Hanlon, Lisbon, ME, won the female individual race and placed third overall behind Sullivan and Downing, with a time of 35:14 while Taryn Palmer, Conway, NH finished second and Rachel Murphy, Intervale, NH placing third. The Sullivan’s, consisting of Bodie Bowers and John Sullivan, won the Team of Two Division. Skechers Performance, consisting of Matt, Hunter, and Tiffany of Skechers, won the Team of Three Division and Team Malkin won the Team of Four Division with Jeff Sires, Seth Burnell, Mike Malkin, and Jon McDougall racing.

With a total of 143 participants, there were just as many spectators enjoying the crazy race and the extra activities going on. Home Depot was on site completing kids’ crafts while the local band, Rek’lis jammed out.

Patricia Higgins, 68 years young, was the highest individual fundraiser who not only raised money for BIBLF, but also completed the majority of the course with only one shoe after losing it during the very first obstacle! Team of 2, Team Bukala, raised over $700 for the organization while the four-person team, Team Young and the Restless raised $689 for BIBLF! BIBLF Staff were very pleased by the number of participants and fundraisers and already planning next year’s event.
