Come enjoy a high altitude birding experience in the Tin Mountain Birding Society Program Birding at Cannon Mountain with John Keator. On this birding trip participants will be seeking "mountain / boreal species” that inhabit the higher altitude regions in the White Mountains. For reservations call Tin Mountain at 603-447-6991.

Cannon Mountain at 4077’ provides nesting habitat for many boreal birds. Participants will search for Bicknell’s Thrush, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler and Boreal Chickadee as well as other nesting and migrating birds. At this time of year, birds will not be singing songs as frequently and their plumage during fall foliage is much less colorful so identification is more challenging. Bring binoculars and dress for weather that is usually at least ten degrees cooler than in the valleys. Expect a half day trip, bring a lunch, there is a picnic area at the base lodge.

Tin Mountain Board member John Keator facilitator of the group, is currently serving as a Tin mountain Trustee. John graduated from Cook College, Rutgers University with a BS in Forestry, and went on to pursue a MS at the SUNY College of Forestry and Environmental Science in Watershed Management and Snow Hydrology. Before his retirement to the valley he had a career job as superintendent, parks and forestry with the NJ State Park Service where I was employed for 32 years.

The cost of the program is $5 for families, $3 per person and free for members. Tin Mountain community nature programs are open to the public, and are made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of LL Bean.
