SISTER ACT to Close Weathervane Theatre’s 54th Season

Based off the hit 1992 film, this musical comedy smash opens Wednesday, August 21

WHITEFIELD, NH – August 21, 2019 – The Weathervane Theatre, a professional, award-winning, equity theatre in Whitefield, NH, is proud to present Sister Act. Based on the hit 1992 film and featuring original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken. Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, Sister Act is a sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship. Sister Act opens Wednesday, August 21st and plays in alternating repertory through August 30th. Sister Act is directed by Weathervane Theatre Producing Artistic Director Ethan Paulini.

Like all titles presented in this season, Sister Act has never been before presented on the Weathervane stage and was the perfect season closer:

“The season finale is important for so many reasons. It is imperative that the show be a high energy, feel good show that sends the audiences into the off-season with fond memories of the season past and provides the jolt the hard working company needs to make it to the Labor Day finish line. Sister Act is just that…fun, silly, tuneful and crowd pleasing,” said Paulini.

The film version of Sister Act starring Whoopi Goldberg first hit theatres in 1992. It became one of the most successful comedies of the early 1990s, spawning a sequel (Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit) and a musical adaptation in 2006 featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, and additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.

“As funny as this show is, it is also a classic story of acceptance. One of the things I am most proud of in Season 54 is the variety of shows. This toe-tapping Alan Menken score is unlike anything we have heard so far this summer,” adds Paulini.

Sister Act marks the third production directed by Paulini this season. He helmed the season opener Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and will also directed Steve Martin and Edie Brickell’s Bright Star. Sister Act is music directed by Colin Keating and choreographed by Marisa Kirby. The production is sponsored by Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa.
