Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race

PINKHAM NOTCH, NH Weather dictates everything on Mount Washington, and this year’s annual Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race was blessed with perfect summer conditions for both competitors and spectators alike. Held on June 17th under bluebird skies and light winds, over 1,000 runners from around the globe took part in the 57th annual hillclimb on the legendary Mt. Washington Auto Road. Even in the best of conditions, the 7.6 mile race is a test for any athlete, as the Auto Road rises over 4,600 vertical feet on its twisting course to the summit. Professional runners are attracted by the prospect of setting the course record, while hundreds of recreational runners are looking to post personal-best times. However, this year’s event set a record that the entire field can be proud of—a charitable donation of $23,236 which will help provide dental services to families in the North Country.

The Mount Washington Road Race has been sponsored annually by Northeast Delta Dental since 2001. During that time, the strong partnership between Northeast Delta Dental and the Mt. Washington Auto Road, bolstered by the Auto Road’s ongoing commitment to local communities, has resulted in annual donations totaling over $105,000 to Coos County Family Health Services (CCFHS).

“The support we’ve received from Northeast Delta Dental and the Mt. Washington Auto Road has made it possible for us to provide dental care for many North Country residents who would have otherwise gone without,” said Ken Gordon, Chief Operating Officer at CCFHS.

CCFHS has been helping to provide families with affordable health care since 1974, and has grown to become one of the largest rural Federally Qualified Health Centers in northern New England. Among their notable accomplishments, CCFHS has a long history of sponsoring school-based dental clinics for area children, and recently expanded their scope of dental services by opening Coos County Family Dental in Berlin. Loretta Morrissette, CCFHS Dental Programs Manager, commented, “We’ll use the proceeds from the event to support our new dental office in downtown Berlin—a full service dental clinic open to everyone in the community, offering care on a reduced-fee basis for those with modest incomes.”

Northeast Delta Dental and the Mt. Washington Auto Road proudly support the CCFHS mission to provide medical and dental care to local communities, and particularly to its patients without insurance or with limited ability to pay for care. The ongoing partnership between the companies will mean that the 2018 Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race is on track to raise much-needed funds for CCFHS, continuing to help provide dental care to families throughout Coos County.
