New snowfall this week means expanded terrain at Mt Washington Valley ski resorts & XC Centers

Greetings from Mt Washington Valley, NH!

Despite one of the least snowy Januarys in Mt Washington Valley, cold temps and recent light snowfall has allowed the 13 ski resorts and XC Centers to offer up primo skiing and riding conditions and expanded terrain. Even the snowmobile trails are looking good, and guided tours and rentals are going gangbusters. We are always on the lookout for more freshies, though, so bring on the snow in February!

For non-skiers, Mt Washington Valley is the place for tubing, dogsledding, fatbiking and winter hiking. The Valley is an ice climbing mecca, attracting the best climbers from throughout the world too. All of these fun activities continue throughout the pandemic and actually allow social distancing easily.

ALPINE SKI RESORTS – SNOW REPORT FOR THURSDAY, JANUARY 28, 2021

Attitash – Offering continued expanded terrain with 38 groomed trails terrain accessed by 4 lifts. 24” average depth. 4” of new snowfall in the past 48 hours, 5” new snowfall in the past 7 days. 29” snowfall this season. Snowmaking continues as temps allow.

Black Mountain – Expanded terrain now open with East side of the mountain anticipated to open for the weekend. 15 groomed trails open, served by 2 lifts. Terrain from mid-station for intermediate/advanced skiers only. 15”-17” base depth.3” of new snow in the last 48 hours, 7” snowfall in the past 7 days.

Bretton Woods – Open with a greatly expanded 61 groomed trails and 25 glades for 437 skiable acres. 5 lifts open today, including the new gondola. Base depths: 18-36”. 2” new snow in the past 48 hours and 7-8” reported in the last 7 days. 69” natural snowfall to date this season.

Cranmore – Open with 29 trails (28 groomed), 110 acres of skiable terrain including 2 terrain parks. 3 lifts spinning today. Base depth: 12” – 16. 2” of snowfall in the past 48 hours. Season total snowfall: 19”. Snowmaking underway. Tubing park open on weekends and throughout holiday periods.

King Pine – More than 80% of terrain is open with 15 trails, all groomed overnight, served by 5 lifts. Expanded terrain anticipated for the weekend. Base depths: 12”-24” with snowmaking underway to open to 100% by the weekend. 1” of new snow reported in the past 48 hours, 2” in the last 6 days. Season total snowfall: 22”. Tubing Park is open Fridays 3-6 p.m. and Weekends/Holiday Periods 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Shawnee Peak – Open with 24 trails (49% groomed) served by 4 lifts. Average base depth: 16”-30”. Snowmaking as temps allow. 4” of new snow in the past 48 hours. Mon-Thurs, mountain opens at 11am. Fri at 9am & Sat-Sunday at 8:30am.

Wildcat – Open with expanded terrain on 87% of skiable terrain, skiing and riding on 42 trails today, with 3 lift operating and access for all ability levels. 18” average base depth. 4” of new snow in the past 48 hours, 7” snowfall in the past 6 days for 60” of snowfall this season.

XC CENTERS – TRAIL CONDITIONS FOR THURSDAY, JANUARY 28, 2021

Bear Notch Ski Touring – 11 trails (12 km) open. 6”-10” base. Trail network is open for Season Pass Holders, plus, an additional 50- day pass holders (by reservation only). 2-3” of new snowfall in the past 4 days offered the chance to expand terrain.

Bretton Woods Nordic Center –29 trails (54 km) open today, 29 trails/54 km skate groomed and 21 trails/32 km track set. Base depth 4”-6”. 2” new snow in the past 48 hours and 7-8” reported in the last 7 days. 69” natural snowfall to date this season. Fatbiking available on trails, Tubing hill open weekends.

Great Glen Trails Open with 45 km trails open, with 17km tracked and 18km skate groomed. 45km of snowshoe trails open. Average depth: 7”- 15”. 1” of snowfall in the past 24 hours, 7” of new snow in the past 7 days. 47.5” of snowfall to date. Snowcoach tours are operating, fat biking trails open, tubing hill open.

Jackson Ski Touring Foundation – Open with 90.2km open 47km groomed and 30km track set. Base depth: 4”-10”. with 2” of new snow overnight in higher elevations. 35km groomed, 10km track set. Depth: 4”-10”. 3” of new snow in the past 48 hours.

Purity Spring XC and Snowshoe Preserve – 16 km snowshoe trails, 16 km snowshoe trails, last groomed on Jan 17. A dusting of new snow today. Conditions are firm & variable. Perfect for fat biking! Some trails/terrain may have thin cover and water crossing trails remain closed.

Mt Washington Valley Ski Touring & Snowshoe Foundation – 12 KM open from Whitaker Woods trails and Powerline to 1785 Inn. 12km skate groomed. 45 km snowshoe trails open. 15 KM – All Whitaker Woods Fat Tire trails only. Base depth: 1”-3”. 2” of new snow in the past 24 hours.
