Flowboarding is a sport that has been often compared to a mix of snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding and has become a competitive sport around the globe. Both body boarders and stand up boarders enjoy the sport. Last year’s event was a huge success bringing riders in from all over North America including Men’s and Women’s current World Champions.
Kicking off the event is a rider party the night before on July 6, at 6pm. This party is open to the public to watch the best riders in the world, also, enjoy live music by Sly Richard, with a cash bar & BBQ. During the evening, there will be a Tandem and Strapped riding exhibition. This is our biggest and best event of the year; come celebrate summer and watch professionals from around the world compete
right in our backyard.
“This is the only competition for strapped boards on a non-barrel sheet wave, which takes the sport to the next level,” says Mike Pappy, Master Coach and Flowboarder with the Flow Dogs.
In addition to Tandem and Strapped riding, the Akua Classic features an adaptive class as part of the competition on Sunday. This is the only competition in the world that recognizes adaptive competitors.
Jeb Boyd, from The Whale’s Tale Waterpark says, “Last year’s event was the first of its kind. We were overwhelmed by the support and success. This great event encourages wholesome free expression, camaraderie, and athleticism in a very cool environment.” Boyd adds, “As riders ourselves, our park fully supports the sport of Flowboarding and the spirit that surrounds it.”
